On Punjab Day, the Central Government has betrayed Punjab by dissolving the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University : Ajaypal Singh Brar
Chandigarh is the soul of Punjab and Panjab University is the heart of Punjab. Today, both have come under the complete control of the Centre.
Chandigarh 1 November ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet), Ajaypal Singh Brar, strongly objected to the dissolution of the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University, calling this step the biggest policy attack on Punjab after 1966. Ajaypal Brar said that the decision of the Central Government to dissolve the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University, Chandigarh, which is called the heart of Punjab, is a direct attack on Punjab’s democratic institutions and educational autonomy. Ajaypal Brar said that the Centre has specifically chosen the day of November 1, because every Central Government knows very well the importance of this day in the context of Punjab. This day is emotionally attached to Punjab and the Sikh community. Brar said that this decision is not only an administrative issue of one university, but a big conspiracy to snatch Punjab’s voice, proud history, and rights. Panjab University has always been a symbol of Punjabi culture, language, and learning, which the Central Government now wants to bring directly under its control. Brar said that the decision to now include Chandigarh’s Member of Parliament and Principal Secretary as ex officio members in the administration of the University exposes the Centre’s intention to fully interfere in Punjab’s educational affairs. Ajaypal Singh Brar said that the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet) will strongly oppose this decision of the Central Government and will mobilise to protect the democratic structure of Panjab University and Punjab’s participatory rights.
