Paddling Towards a Greener and Healthier Future
Chandigarh 1 November ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Lawrence School, Sanawar, a 178-year-old prestigious institution and Asia's oldest co-educational school, continues its proud tradition of pioneering initiatives with the launch of the 6th edition of Tour de Sanawar and the Sanawar Global Cycling League (SGCL) in Kasauli on November 2, 2025. Both are a joint initiative of The Lawrence School Sanawar, Old Sanawarian Society and HASTPA (Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association). Tour de Sanawar: Launched in 2018, this annual mountain biking event has become the largest school-based platform for competitive cycling in India, attracting nearly 150 riders from 10 leading schools across India this year. Prominent participating schools include The Lawrence School Lovedale, Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh, Auckland House Shimla, YPS Mohali, and PPS Nabha. The event welcomes cyclists of all ages, with the youngest participant this year being just 9 years old and the oldest 66, reflecting the race's broad appeal. Professional riders will also participate in the elite category. Current and past national medalists, as well as winners of prestigious races like the MTB Shimla, will also be present. New for 2025:-- • Launch of the Sanawar Global Cycling League: a new platform set to create pathways for 100 Indian schools over the next two years, aiming to make cycling accessible and inspiring among Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
• Widespread participation: Riders and schools from states across India, both boys and girls, will compete in multiple categories. Over 10 schools will send official teams from as far away as Ooty.
• New categories: This year the race will be held in 6 categories – two categories for schools as well as elite/professional riders.
• Prizes worth Rs 5 lakhs thanks to our good partners.
