Demand Equal Pay and Permanent Jobs, Hold Massive Rally in Chandigarh
Chandigarh 11 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Hundreds of contractual multipurpose female health workers from across Punjab, accompanied by their families, staged a state-level rally today outside the office of the Department of Health and Family Welfare in Sector 34A, Chandigarh. Union State President Sarabjit Kaur stated that on February 24, 2014, the Punjab government had passed a Cabinet decision to grant “equal pay for equal work,” with formal orders issued on December 22, 2015. However, the department stalled the implementation, citing objections and court cases, keeping the matter pending for the past 10 years. She added that on February 10, 2025, the High Court lifted the stay and directed the department to act, but even after 5–6 months, no steps have been taken. Leaders alleged that the government is making false claims about regularisation and pay parity, while failing to implement High Court directives.
