Punjab Congress SC Department burns effigy of Chief Minister over Barnala lathi charge on sanitation workers Chandigarh 28 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Scheduled Caste Department of the Punjab Congress today staged a protest by burning an effigy of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, condemning the alleged lathi charge on protesting sanitation workers in Barnala. Addressing the protest, Punjab Congress SC Department National Coordinator Sudhir Chaudhary said the sanitation workers had been peacefully protesting for several days, demanding the regularisation of their services from temporary to permanent employment. Instead of addressing their legitimate demands, the Punjab Government resorted to police action and lathi-charged the protesters.
