Warring warns against using police to intimidate farmers for land pooling
Says, Police Commissioner’s office turned into GLADA office
Chandigarh 6 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today warned the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab against intimidating and threatening farmers to force them to accept the land pooling policy by using the police. He disclosed that the AAP has turned the Ludhiana Police Commissioner’s office into GLADA office where farmers are summoned and intimidated to accept the land pooling policy. Warring, in a statement here today, revealed that he has been flooded with phone calls by concerned farmers who are being called and summoned by the police and threatened to sign the agreements accepting the land pooling policy. “This is unacceptable and it will have dangerous and disastrous consequences”, he warned, saying, “do not push the farmers to the wall, consequences can be disastrous”. He asked, if the farmers' land is snatched what will be left with them? The PCC president sounded a note of caution to the overenthusiastic police officials who are always ready to please their political masters. “Remember, it is a matter of a few months now as the final countdown has started”, he warned the police officials, “intimidating farmers and threatening and forcing them to part with their land is unforgivable and it will be duly accounted for”. Warring congratulated the farmers for standing up against the government and not feeling intimidated. He assured them that the Congress will always stand by them as it has in the past. “We will not let an inch of your land be taken away forcibly”, he assured the farmers. In his final appeal to the government, he urged it to withdraw the land pooling policy. “How can you, those in the government think that you can forcibly take away the farmers’ land?” he asked those in the government, while noting that all of them are Punjabis and most of them are from farming background themselves.
