Chandigarh 1 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Hitesh Puri, Chairman of CRAWFED (Confederation of Residents’ Welfare Associations), today met with the Chief Secretary of Chandigarh and the Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) to highlight the growing concerns of CHB residents following the recent Supreme Court judgment related to Floor Area Ratio (FAR). During the meeting,. Puri pointed out that CHB has misinterpreted the Hon’ble Supreme Court's decision, which pertained to a specific case and context. Instead of applying the judgment selectively, CHB has halted all construction and renovation permissions—even those well within the existing approved building plans—causing undue hardship to residents. Puri submitted a formal memorandum to the Chief Secretary, urging the administration to revisit the issue with fairness and clarity. He requested that a comprehensive legal opinion be sought to distinguish between the specific case addressed by the apex court and the general rights of CHB allottees to carry out permissible construction within approved norms. The Chief Secretary assured Puri of a positive and sympathetic consideration of the matter. He affirmed that appropriate legal advice would be taken and suitable directions issued to CHB to resolve the residents’ concerns at the earliest. This development has brought hope to thousands of CHB residents who have been facing unnecessary delays in home improvement projects due to the current ambiguity.
