Opposition in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation demands convening of special house
Chandigarh 16 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Senior Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and Leader of Opposition met Commissioner Municipal Corporation and Secretary. Gave a demand letter to the Municipal Corporation and demanded to convene a special house. The Senior Deputy Mayor said that under Section 55 (2), when the Mayor is on leave in the city or abroad, the Senior Deputy Mayor can call a Special House with 1/4 majority. Therefore, a memorandum has been submitted to the Municipal Commissioner and Municipal Secretary demanding that a special meeting be convened at the earliest to discuss the agenda in detail. The entire opposition is united on this issue.
It is informed that as per the order of the Subject Section, the requisite number of Councillors wish to hold a special meeting of the Corporation on 19.09.2025 to discuss the issue related to the disposal of land of Pocket No. 6 at Manimajra in public interest, Because there is a possibility of misuse of public money and assets. The supplementary agenda in this regard was wrongly passed in the absence of opposition councillors.
