Chandigarh 3 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Senior Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation, Jasbir Singh Bunty, Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta, and Councilor Premlata jointly opposed the 24x7 water supply, calling it another burden on the inflation-stricken public. They questioned why a project currently under investigation by the Chandigarh Vigilance Department was being imposed on the city's residents. The three councilors stated that the 24x7 water supply project approved in Chandigarh has failed completely because it was initially launched as a pilot project in Mani Majra and inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, the residents of Mani Majra have not received clean drinking water, let alone 24-hour water supply. This led to councilors repeatedly brandishing contaminated water bottles at the Municipal Corporation. Due to this project, residents of Mani Majra found damaged streets and roads damaged. Councilor Premlata stated that the 24x7 water supply promised by politicians was not met, but they did receive contaminated water. That too, with insects. The promise was made of RO water. Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Singh Bunty explained that this project is worth 60 million euros. The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has taken a loan of 48 million euros, while receiving a grant of 11 million euros. This loan is to be repaid in 15 years. The interest rate is fixed at 1.56 percent, and a sum of 100,000 onions is also to be paid. When the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation took the loan, the euro rate was 80 rupees, and today it is 109 rupees, and further increases are likely. Bunty said that when the project was started in Mani Majra, 60 crore rupees were invested from Smart City and 20 crore rupees from the Municipal Corporation. However, it is unknown where this money has been invested. The people have not received the benefits they were supposed to get. Furthermore, residents are already facing a 5% annual increase in water rates, along with water bills. Deputy Mayor Tarun Mehta stated that if people don't want 24-hour water supply in Chandigarh, why are Chandigarh residents, already facing the brunt of inflation, being subjected to additional taxes in the name of water? Secondly, this failed project was implemented only in Mani Majra, but Chandigarh residents have been bearing its burden for years. Everyone living in Chandigarh has been paying for this project at a 5 percent annual rate for years. The project is being implemented for the city. If implemented, the entire city will be filled with potholes, and people will face daily hardships. Furthermore, this project has already failed in Manimajra. If this project is implemented in the city, the city will suffer significant losses. He told that we had brought a table agenda against this in the 353B House meeting of the Municipal Corporation, but the Mayor rejected this table agenda and said that we will definitely implement this project and will definitely put a burden on the public.
