Central University of Punjab Organizes Workshop on “AI in Action: Approaches, Tools & Real-World Applications”
Bathinda 4 December ( PDL ) : The Library of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, organized a one-day workshop titled “AI in Action: Approaches, Tools & Real-World Applications” on Wednesday, drawing enthusiastic participation from more than 200 participants. Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Prof. Rajesh Kumar, in charge of the Library, delivered the welcome address. The programme was graced by Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, who served as the Chief Guest. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor, along with Prof. Sitharam and the invited speakers: Prof. Rupak Chakravarty, Professor, Department of Library & Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr. Khushpreet Singh, Assistant Professor from the same department; and Dr. Vinita Saroha from Elsevier. Senior university officials, including the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Student Welfare, faculty members of various Departments, and the entire Library Staff were also present. In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest Prof. T. G. Sitharam delivered an inspiring and motivational lecture emphasizing the responsible and productive use of Artificial Intelligence. He urged students to embrace AI-driven tools and technologies, highlighting their potential to shape a safer and progressive future. He encouraged the youth to become future-ready by building strong AI-related skills. Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, in his presidential remarks, highlighted the student-centric and skill-oriented vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes the integration of futuristic technologies like AI into higher education. He reiterated the need for ethical and responsible adoption of AI tools in research and academics. Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Rupak Chakravarty discussed emerging advancements and opportunities in Artificial Intelligence, particularly in academic and scientific ecosystems. He stressed the importance of using AI cautiously and ethically. Dr. Vinita Saroha, who was representing Elsevier, presented insights into the cutting-edge AI innovations being incorporated into products such as Scopus AI and ScienceDirect AI. She also provided a preview of LeapAI, an upcoming tool designed to significantly enhance the research workflow for students and faculty. Dr. Khushpreet Singh spoke on the mindful and positive use of AI, reminding participants that AI has gradually become a part of daily life—often used knowingly or unknowingly. He encouraged learners to adopt AI tools to strengthen and uplift academic research practices. The workshop concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Dean Academic Affairs, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and collaborators for making the event a success.
