Employees removed from CTU in Chandigarh go on strike, administration imposes ESMA
Chandigarh 8 December (Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal) : In Chandigarh, 85 diesel buses have been removed from the roads after the completion of the term by CTU and 142 employees posted in them have been removed. These employees were posted on outsource. In protest against this, the employees started a protest on Monday. The Chandigarh Administration says that the strike and protest were called by the outsourced employees of Chandigarh Transport Undertaking and Chandigarh City Bus Service Society.
However, this was expected, so the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) was already implemented as per the instructions of the Administrator. At the same time, according to the Chandigarh Administration, the services of the outsourced employees who participated in the strike and protest in violation of ESMA orders have been terminated by giving instructions to the concerned outsourcing agency. Notices have also been issued to drivers deployed by bus operators participating in the strike.
According to Chandigarh CTU officials, to keep the situation smooth, the crew deployed on some inter-state routes has been shifted to city bus services so that passengers do not face any inconvenience. It is worth mentioning here that the Chandigarh Administration has replaced 85 buses withdrawn from local routes with long-route buses. The Chandigarh Administration claims that the strike or protests have not affected any bus route in the tricity.
