Sunaina Jain's Poetry Collection "The Patchwork Quilt" Launched

Chandigarh 20 January ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A new poetry collection, The Patchwork Quilt, authored by Sunaina Jain, Assistant Professor of English at MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, was officially launched at an event held at the UT Guest House. The occasion was graced by distinguished personalities including General VP Malik, Former Chief of Army Staff and Dr. Ranjana Malik, Former President AWWA as the Chief Guests. Vivek Atray, former IAS officer, author, and motivational speaker; and Prof. Manju Jaidka, Former Professor of Panjab University and Chairperson of the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi; MCM DAV College Officiate Principal Suman Mahajan were the Guests of Honour. The eminent guests shared their profound thoughts on the collection and the poetic craft of the author. The collection, comprising nearly 60 poems, is a profound exploration of life's complexities, weaving together themes of love, self-reflection, and societal commentary. Divided into three sections—Self, Love, and World—the poetry encapsulates the essence of human emotions and perspectives. Jain's work oscillates between the deeply personal and the universal as it touches upon love’s elusiveness, the struggles of self-identity, and reflections on the societal ethos of the 21st century. Speaking at the launch, Jain shared her creative journey, stating, “This collection is a tapestry of philosophical musings and untamed reflections that strive to navigate the labyrinth of the heart and the world. It is my humble attempt to strike a chord with readers through the nuances of poetry.” An avid reader and accomplished academic, Jain holds a doctorate in English from Panjab University. Her works have been widely published in esteemed journals and international anthologies, including Muse India, South Asian Ensemble, and Nuances and Dialog. She has also contributed chapters to prestigious academic publications such as The Routledge Handbook of Ecofeminism and Literature and The Routledge Handbook of Trans Literature. Beyond her literary pursuits, Jain is actively engaged in creative arts like singing, painting, and cooking. She has conducted numerous workshops on creative writing, language, and communication skills, showcasing her dedication to both academia and the arts. The Patchwork Quilt is now available for readers, promising to offer a rich, multifaceted exploration of love, life, and the world around us.

About the Author 

Sunaina Jain, an Assistant Professor of English at MCM DAV College, Chandigarh, Sunaina Jain holds a doctorate in English from Panjab University, Chandigarh, Besides conducting various workshops on creative writing, and language and communication skills, she has published many research papers in national and international journals. Her poems have featured in a number of literary journals like Muse India, South Asian Ensemble, Nuances and Dialog, and international anthologies including Shout It Out (Lost Tower Publications, London, 2016), Tranquil Muse (Authorspress, New Delhi, 2018) and Aquillrelles Anthologies: Selecting the Best (USA, 2018). Her translated stories feature in the collection Vignettes (Sahitya Akademi, 2018). She has contributed chapters to The Routledge Handbook of Ecofeminism and Literature (2022), Narratives of Trauma in South Asian Literature (2022) and The Routledge Handbook of Trans Literature (2024). Some biographical entries written by her have featured in The Routledge Encyclopedia of Indian Writing in English (2023). She co-edited Happiness: An Eternal Quest of Being (Authorspress, 2018). She has reviewed books of various genres for Muse India, and guest- edited the special May-June 2022 issue of Muse India on "Ethics and Politics of Cultural Memory". She has a penchant for pursuing diverse creative arts including singing, painting and cooking.
