The raids being conducted by the Punjab government on Jagbani and the Punjab Kesari group are reminiscent of the days of the Emergency : Hardev Singh Ubha
Chandigarh 18 January ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : BJP Punjab state press secretary Hardev Singh Ubha has strongly condemned the raids being conducted by the Punjab government on Jagbani, a publication of the Punjab Kesari group. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party government is trying to suppress media organizations out of fear of true and unbiased journalism. Hardev Singh Ubha said that the Jagbani group has always fearlessly raised issues concerning the people, but when the government's failures are exposed, the government attacks the fourth pillar of democracy.
Ubha said that some time ago, some journalists had raised questions about the Punjab government's use of helicopters, instead of answering their questions, the Bhagwant Mann government tried to intimidate them by filing cases against them. This action is clearly motivated by revenge. Ubha said that the government has completely failed in Punjab on issues related to law and order, drug abuse, unemployment, and farmers. The media is being targeted to distract attention from these failures, this is extremely dangerous for democracy.
He warned the Punjab government, stating that the BJP would not tolerate any attack on media freedom. If this raid against the Jagbani group is not stopped immediately, so the BJP will take to the streets and fight to protect democracy. Finally, Ubah stated that freedom of the press is the backbone of democracy and that any attempt to weaken it will be strongly resisted.
