Now Speaks the Expert Jatt Fame Punjabi Singer Nawab: “Music Director Gur Sidhu Ruined My Career and Siphoned My Money”
Chandigarh 21 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : All is not well in the Punjabi film and music industry—there is no doubt about it now. After Sunanda and Kaka, it’s now Nawab who has raised his voice against a big player in the music industry. With one singer after another accusing the giants of the Punjabi industry, the issue of exploitation of artists has become more apparent and undeniable. There is an urgent need for all artists to unite and fight for their rights and well-being. During today’s press conference, Punjabi singer Nawab shared his painful experience and advised budding artists to tread carefully. He warned that non-compliance with payment and agreement terms through foreign channels has become a habitual practice of some Punjabi music directors and production houses. He urged newcomers to seek legal opinions and make partial payments only as per agreed terms. What Is Singer Nawab’s Case? About three years ago, singer Nawab made a verbal agreement with music director Gur Sidhu to compose music for five songs, for which he made a lump sum payment. However, even after one and a half years, Gur Sidhu delivered the music for only two songs—one of which did not meet Nawab’s expectations. The music for the remaining three songs is still pending. Nawab says the issue is not just about financial loss but about how his content lost relevance over the four-year delay, leaving him demoralized. He believes that the delay not only sabotaged his career but also hampered his creative journey.
