Seminar on ‘Awareness against Food Adulteration’ organized by Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh and ‘PAAWA’
Gobingarh/Chandigarh 16 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Public Against Adulteration Welfare Association (PAAWA) in collaboration with the Faculty of Performing Arts and Media, Desh Bhagat University, organized a seminar on the topic of ‘Awareness against Food Adulteration’, in which more than 200 students from various academic disciplines participated. The seminar aimed to educate young minds about the growing health risks posed by junk and adulterated foods and to focus on the urgent need for healthy lifestyle choices. On this occasion, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University Dr. Zora Singh attended the function as the chief guest. In his address, he appreciated this initiative of ‘PAWA' and termed it as an important step towards solving the public health crisis. He appealed to the youth to give up junk food and adopt nutritious eating habits. Pro-Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University Dr. Tajinder Kaur was the special guest at the event. Justice (Retd) Zora Singh, Chief Patron of 'PAWA' and former Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, emphasized on 'PAWA's' mission to combat food adulteration through education, policy advocacy and collaboration with agencies like FSSAI and FDA. He also highlighted similar initiatives, including a previous seminar at Punjabi University, Patiala. During this, expert speakers present discussed important topics such as common food adulterants, health impacts, legal framework for food safety, and simple home tests for adulteration. The seminar was attended by ‘PAWA' President Amarjit Singh, Vice Presidents Captain Balwinder Singh and Birinder Singh (Retired Sessions Judge), General Secretary Surjit Singh Bhatoa, Kulwant Singh Lehra and Kulwant Singh Purba, Joint Secretary, Yadabinder Pal Singh, Legal Advisor, Stage Manager Bhagwan Das and several district leaders from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh were present. Students of Desh Bhagat Global School made the program a success with cultural performances and interactive discussions on this occasion. At the end of the seminar, a vote of thanks was presented by Birinder Singh, who thanked the university and the participants.
