Councillors met Home Secretary Brar regarding the land to be auctioned in Manimajra
Allegations of rigging in the Municipal Corporation House meeting, opposition councillors made a big allegation
Chandigarh 5 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Questions are being raised on the 352nd General House Meeting of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation held on 26 August 2025. Many important decisions taken in this meeting have been termed as completely illegal and arbitrary by the opposition councilors and the Senior Deputy Mayor. Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Singh Bunty, Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta and Councillor Prem Lata have written a letter to the Local Bodies Secretary-Home Secretary, UT Chandigarh, demanding that the resolutions passed in the meeting be declared cancelled. The letter alleges that during the meeting, when the agenda related to *transfer of V-3 roads* was being discussed, the opposition councillors were forcibly thrown out of the meeting without any reason. They say that the councillors only wanted to exercise their voting rights, but the mayor violated the democratic process by getting them out. According to the letter, 15 opposition and 13 ruling party councillors were present in the meeting. In such a situation, it was difficult to pass the agenda in the presence of the opposition, so the agenda was forcibly passed by excluding the opposition. Similarly, the supplementary agenda related to *Multi Story Group Housing* was also passed in the absence of the opposition. It has been alleged that this decision has been taken arbitrarily and illegally, which is likely to benefit some people. The opposition councillors said that the Municipal Corporation is going through a bad financial situation, despite that, the corporation is being harmed by conducting auction in such an opaque manner. They have demanded that all the decisions taken in the 352nd meeting of the House should be *canceled and a new meeting should be called in the presence of opposition councillors*. Instead of taking decisions arbitrarily, decisions should be taken with the wide presence of councillors and after discussion so that the Municipal Corporation can get full revenue from the auction. The letter is signed by *Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Singh Bunty, Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta and Councilor Prem Lata*.
