Chandigarh 12 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Congress today demanded immediate removal of the Haryana Director General of Police with his immediate arrest for being named in the suicide note by the IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. Addressing a press conference at the state party headquarters here today, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Secretary in-charge Punjab Ravinder Dalvi, AICC Secretary Sukhinwder Danny and PCC SC Department Chairman Kuldeep Vaid said that ADGP Kumar was the victim of the deliberate policy of the BJP which has been targeting the Dalits, the backwards, the farmers and the minorities. Criticising the way the BJP government in Haryana has handled the case, Charanjit Singh Channi pointed out, normally in such cases, all the names mentioned in the suicide note are included in the FIR. But, he pointed out, the Chandigarh Police, which is directly under the control of the BJP government at the centre had not named all the accused. “Remove the DGP, handcuff him and put him behind the bars”, he remarked, while asking, if a Dalit IPS officer cannot get justice, what should be the plight of the ordinary Dalits. The former Punjab Chief Minister said that this was not an isolated case as there was systematic and organized victimization of the Dalits taking place under the BJP rule that seeks inspiration from the Manusmriti. He pointed out, how one lawyer tried to hurl a shoe at the Chief Justice of India and how a youth Hari Om Balmiki was lynched in Raebarelli in Uttar Pradesh. He pointed out, how the union Home Minister had mocked Dr BR Ambedkar inside the parliament, reflecting the thinking of the BJP about the Dalits and Dr Ambedkar. Speaking on the occasion, the PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that this was the outcome of the policies of the Manuvadi forces who were in control of things. “The RSS believes in Manusmriti as its constitution”, he said, while adding, the BJP leaders were only showing respect for the constitution of the country, as they are scared of the Dalit backlash. The PCC president alleged that the BJP was getting such things done deliberately to polarize people along communal and caste lines to win the elections. HE said, as the BJP has failed on all fronts, it has been trying to win the elections either through polarization or through vote theft. He apprehended a deliberate conspiracy to disturb peace in Punjab also, pointing out how Dr Ambedkar’s statue was desecrated on January 26, 2025 to deliberately disrespect him. “The Congress will not allow such divisive forces to divide the people or divide the country”, he asserted, while appealing people to be alert. He also announced that the Congress will hold candlelight marches at all district headquarters across Punjab tomorrow in memory of Y Rajesh Kumar and seek justice for his family. AICC Secretary Sukhwinder Singh Danny said that both the BJP at the centre and the AAP government in Punjab were victimising the Dalits.
