Punjab Government should immediately ensure electricity to farmers’ tubewells and canal water to fields in flood-affected areas : Makhan Brar
For farmers to be able to irrigate on time and sow wheat, the government must show seriousness
Chandigarh 3 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar-Surjit), Barjinder Singh Makhan Brar, said that due to the recent floods in Punjab, electricity supply to the fields has been severely affected. Now, when the water in the fields has dried up and farmers are removing the accumulated sand, uninterrupted electricity to the tubewells will be immediately needed for irrigation. The government should ensure the required electricity supply so that farmers can irrigate on time and sow the next crop as scheduled. Makhan Brar stated in a media release that although the party is also providing financial assistance, some works fall directly under the government’s responsibility, such as electricity supply and delivering canal water to the fields. According to ground reports sent by party workers, many motors have been damaged by floodwaters, increasing farmers’ losses. The next 15 days are crucial for wheat sowing. Therefore, without delay, the government must ensure electricity to farmers’ tubewells and arrange canal water to reach the fields. Shiromani Akali Dal, expressing concern over this serious situation, has demanded that the electricity supply for agriculture be restored immediately and compensation be given to farmers for the damaged motors.
