Punjab Govt Notifies CLU for Periphery Farmhouses; Chandigarh Villages Question Administration’s Silence - Satinder Sidhu nominated Councilor MC & Chairman Chandigarh State Cooperative bank
Chandigarh 16 November ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Punjab Government today notified the Change of Land Use (CLU) for periphery farmhouses under the Forest Act—an announcement that has triggered strong reactions from village residents of Chandigarh, who allege that the Chandigarh Administration has done nothing so far for its original inhabitants. Villagers claim that while Punjab has moved ahead with CLU permissions, the Chandigarh Administration has neither announced any Land Use Policy nor initiated any Land Pooling Policy for farmers living in villages within the Union Territory. Local residents questioned whether the Periphery Act applies only to Chandigarh residents and not to those from Punjab or Haryana, highlighting what they describe as a clear policy imbalance. With all city villages now falling under the Municipal Corporation, residents are demanding answers: Why is there still no provision for CLU or Land Pooling for Chandigarh’s own villages? Why has the administration remained silent despite repeated appeals? Villagers allege that the Chandigarh Administration is interested only in tax collection, not in extending developmental benefits. They argue that the Municipal Corporation has been reduced to merely a “Tax Collection Centre”, offering no real policy support or land reforms to the communities that formed the original fabric of the city. Raising slogans and calling for collective action, villagers urged their elected representatives to wake up and take a stand. “Jago, villages walo! Jago representatives!” they said, demanding that the administration introduce clear CLU and land pooling policies for Chandigarh’s rural belt without further delay.
