Central University of Punjab Hosts One-Day Seminar on Breast Cancer Awareness

Bathinda 30 January ( PDL ) : The Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, successfully organized a One-Day Seminar and Awareness Program titled “Bridging Awareness and Clinical Practice in Breast Cancer Management” at its Bathinda campus. Conducted under the aegis of the DST–PURSE Project, Government of India, the programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director, Research & Development, who emphasized the critical importance of early detection and informed clinical intervention in breast cancer management.

The technical sessions featured expert lectures by Prof. (Dr.) Pardeep Garg, Head, Radiation Oncology, GGS Medical College, and Prof. (Dr.) Parvinder Singh Sandhu, Director, Surgical Oncology, Advanced Cancer Institute. These were followed by an interactive discussion with Dr. Gaurav Goel, Assistant Professor, Advanced Cancer Institute, which provided participants an opportunity to seek clarity on clinical practices and preventive strategies. The presidential address was delivered by Prof. Ramakrishna Wusurika, Dean (In-charge), Academics, who highlighted the importance of translational research, emphasizing that research outcomes should effectively reach the patient’s bedside.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director, IQAC, and reinforced the University’s commitment to community outreach and its mission to bridge the gap between medical expertise and public health awareness. In the afternoon, the University organized a Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) activity under the leadership of Prof. Monisha Dhiman, featuring a poster-making and slogan-writing competition. Students from various disciplines participated enthusiastically, using their creative expressions to spread awareness about breast cancer, early screening, treatment modalities, and to dispel common myths associated with the disease.
