PM Modi Stands Firmly With Punjabis in Testing Times : Tarun Chugh

Empathy, Relief and Rebuilding — Punjab Finds Strength in PM’s Assurance

Gurdaspur/Chandigarh 9 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh today welcomed the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend financial assistance to Punjab and Himachal in the wake of the devastating floods. Chugh said that the Prime Minister has shown empathy and sensitivity by listening to the people of Punjab with a compassionate heart during his visit to Gurdaspur today. Chugh said the Prime Minister not only undertook an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas but also held a detailed review meeting in Gurdaspur to assess the scale of damage and the immediate needs of the people. “Prime Minister Modi listened patiently to the grievances of the farmers, labourers and other affected families. He understood their pain with deep empathy and announced comprehensive relief measures which will go a long way in alleviating their suffering,” Chugh said. He pointed out that the Prime Minister announced Rs.1600 crore as financial assistance in addition to the Rs.12,000 crore already available in the state’s kitty. The Centre has also approved advance release of the second instalment of SDRF and an advance instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi for farmers. The Prime Minister further announced Rs.2 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives and Rs.50,000 for the injured. Children orphaned in these floods will receive long-term care and support under the PM CARES for Children scheme. Chugh said Prime Minister Modi has assured full assistance for rebuilding homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, repairing and restoring damaged schools under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, and comprehensive infrastructural support for roads, irrigation, and water harvesting structures. Prime Minister Modi also laid special emphasis on helping farmers by supporting silted bores, providing solar panel convergence for irrigation pumps, and extending aid under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. “Prime Minister Modi has given confidence to every Punjabi that the Union Government stands shoulder to shoulder with them in this hour of crisis. As a Punjabi, I thank Prime Minister Modi for standing with every flood-affected family in Punjab in these testing times. His concern and determination have brought hope to lakhs of farmers, labourers, and common people who have borne the brunt of this disaster,” Chugh said. He added that the Prime Minister’s interaction with affected families and his encouragement to the NDRF, SDRF and Aapda Mitra volunteers reflected his spirit of solidarity with the people and his appreciation for those who risked their lives to save others. Chugh reiterated that the Centre will continue to extend all possible help to Punjab until normalcy is fully restored.
