Championship Showdown Awaits as Tee Birds take on Shivalik Swingers in Panchkula Golf League Season 2 Final on February 22
Panchkula 20 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : All the flavours of match play were witnessed in the two semi finals of the second edition of the Panchkula Golf League played at the Panchkula Golf Course. In the first semi final contested between Golfing Eagles and Tee Birds the match was well balanced till the halfway stage. However some gritty golf during the closing stretch saw Tee Birds pull ahead and secure victory. The two teams shared one singles win each from the two singles played. From the remaining five doubles games, Tee Birds won three, halved one and lost one.
The singles games produced some exciting golf. Maandar Saddi from Golfing Eagles was three down at one stage but managed to win back two holes against Brig HPS Dhillon and they reached the final hole with Brig Dhillon one up. A composed pressure par save from Brig Dhillon on the last hole where he had a stroke ensured he closed out the game. The finest fightback of the day was delivered by the pairing of Kulwaran Singh and Rohit Dagar from Tee Birds. They were three holes down after thirteen holes against their opponents from Golfing Eagles. They responded strongly by winning three of the next four holes to level the game and this comeback proved decisive as it appeared to galvanise their team to victory.In the other semi final, Shivalik Swingers led from the start but Clubs on Flames mounted a determined fightback. In the end, Shivalik Swingers emerged winners by claiming three doubles games and one singles game while losing two doubles games and one singles game. One of the notable contests in this tie was the singles game between Col JM Singh of Shivalik Swingers and Raghav Joshi of Clubs on Flames. Trailing by two holes at one stage, Col JM Singh fought back to level the game. However a strong finish over the final three holes saw Raghav win the sixteenth with a birdie and he eventually secured the game. The finals will be played on 22 February and judging by the form of the two finalists Shivalik Swingers and Tee Birds exciting golf is certain to be witnessed.
