Gate meetings held at 8 locations today. Preparations for the strike on February 12, 2026, are complete
Chandigarh 9 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Employees of the UT and Municipal Corporation are fully engaged in preparations to make the strike called by the Federation of UT Employees and Workers, Chandigarh, on February 12, 2026, a success. In preparation for the strike, gate meetings were held today at the electricity office in Mani Majra, the Municipal Corporation horticulture booths in Mani Majra, Public Health MC Mani Majra, road booths in Mani Majra and Sector 26, and pump houses in Sectors 26, 32, 52, and 56. After the gate meetings, an extended executive committee meeting of the Federation was held to review the preparations.
Representatives from more than two dozen unions participated in the meeting. UT employees received a significant boost when Comrade Subhash Lamba, President of the All India State Government Employees Federation, Naresh Shastri, President of Sarv Karmchari Sangh Haryana, Narayan Dutt Tiwari, General Secretary of the Punjab Subordinate Services Federation (Scientific), Secretary Charanjit Singh Sidhu, Sarwan Singh Jangra, President of Panchkula district Nitin Singla, General Secretary Vijaypal, and Sarwan Singh Jangra of the Pensioners Union arrived in Chandigarh and addressed the employees' meeting. They called for a resounding strike on February 12 and congratulated the Federation members for their preparations, urging them to take the struggle to its conclusion. They stated that this strike is a declaration of a decisive battle because the labor codes introduced by the government are a death warrant for workers and employees.Gate meetings were held at various offices, where Federation President Gopal Dutt Joshi, General Secretary Rajendra Katoch, Joint Secretary Harkesh Chand, Vice President and General Secretary of CSC Horticulture M.M. Subramaniam, President of UT Power Man Union Amrik Singh, Secretary Virender Singh, Senior Vice Presidents Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu, Ramgopal, Harjinder Singh, and Ramashish, Vice Presidents of CSC Horticulture Department Budhram, Baldev Bhag Singh, Nihal Singh, Naseeb Singh, President of Public Health Harpal Singh, Vice Presidents Sikandar Sharma, Harjit Singh, Rajkumar, Tejmani, Tarun Kumar, Manmohan Singh, President of Contact Center Appointments Manoj Kumar Bhuria, General Secretary Sunil Kumar Chauhan, Federation Vice President Rekha Gora, Joint Secretary Bihari Lal, Anganwadi worker Neelam Kumari, and others addressed the rallies. They appealed to all employees to participate in the strike on February 12th, stating that the strike is being held to demand: Immediate implementation of the terms and conditions of the Eighth Pay Commission and a 20% interim relief; repeal of the four labor codes created by replacing 29 labor laws; regularization of all temporary employees who have completed 10 years of service and implementation of equal pay for equal work until regularization; bringing outsourced employees under the direct control of the departments; repeal of the PFRDA Act and restoration of the old pension scheme; stopping the privatization of departments; filling all vacant promotional posts in all departments immediately and regularizing contract employees in direct recruitment posts; adjusting electricity employees transferred to private companies by the Chandigarh administration back into the administration's electricity department and other departments; revoking the dismissal orders of crèche workers and helpers and reinstating them; reinstating employees who were retired at 60 instead of 65 years of age; bringing parks and green belts under the control of the Horticulture Department; revoking ESMA imposed in the electricity and transport departments; withdrawing FIRs registered against employees; repealing Articles 310, 311 2 A B C of the Constitution; and reinstating employees laid off by the Municipal Corporation.
This strike is being held in support of demands such as increasing the ESI deduction limit to at least ₹50,000, implementing the Central Government Health Scheme for UT employees, providing jobs to dependents of deceased employees by removing the 5% ceiling, applying DC rates to crèche/Anganwadi workers, and immediately providing employees with oil, soap, and uniforms. Federation officials appealed to employees of all departments to participate in large numbers in the strike on February 12th and make the rally in Sector 17 a success.
