Chugh demands NIA probe into Gurdaspur policemen’s killing

Chugh demands NIA probe into Gurdaspur policemen’s killing Asks CM Mann to resign as Home Minister Chandigarh 23 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Expressing deep sorrow over the brutal killing of two Punjab Police personnel at a border post in Gurdaspur district, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said the sacrifice of the brave officers will not go in vain and the nation stands firmly with their bereaved families. He described the incident as deeply disturbing and a direct assault on the security framework of a sensitive border state. Given the proximity of the police post to the Indo-Pak international border and the emerging indications of possible cross-border involvement, Chugh demanded an immediate probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Electricity Workers to Hold Protest Rally in Sector 17 on February 26

Chandigarh 23 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Today, February 23, 2026, the extended executive meeting of the UT Powermen Union, Chandigarh, was held near the Electricity Office, Sector 18, under the chairmanship of Union President Amrik Singh. The meeting was attended by both executive members and active union members. The meeting discussed in detail the negative attitude of the administration and CPDL officials towards maintaining the employees' government status and other demands, as well as the unreasonable separation of HT and LT, creating obstacles in work, and the unnecessary written examination primarily to absorb employees into the CPDL. A protest rally was announced on February 26, 2026, at 12 noon in front of the Electricity Office, Sector 17, against the written examination for regularization.

Union General Secretary Gopal Dutt Joshi presented the agenda at the meeting, and speakers including Union Vice President Sukhwinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Vinay Prasad, Surjit Singh, Surinder Singh, Pan Singh, Seva Singh, Rupinder Singh, Amit Singh, and others expressed their views, strongly criticizing the imposition of a written examination as a prerequisite for the permanent employment of contractual employees who have been working with the Electricity Department for the past 10 years and now with CPDL for the past one year. They accused the union of reneging on the agreement reached in the meeting held with the Deputy Commissioner on January 31, 2025, in which they had assured the employees of a stepwise regularization. However, CPDL is now reneging on its promise, which is wrong. The speakers stated that the examination is a conspiracy to sideline long-serving employees who are handling all the company's work, which cannot be tolerated. Speakers further stated that most of the employees transferred to CPDL, who are senior, have already taken written exams, typing tests, and practical exams, but this is being ignored. They demanded that the employees be regularized based on their security and warned that if the company reneges on its promise, the union will announce an intensification of the struggle by holding a protest rally on February 26th.
