From Fairway to Finish: Tee Birds Crowned Panchkula Golf League Season Two Champions
Panchkula 22 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Panchkula Golf League Season 2 concluded in emphatic fashion at the Panchkula Golf Club as Tee Birds were crowned champions following two weeks of sustained competition, strategic Matchplay battles and high intensity team contests. Shivalik Swingers finished as runners up after a closely fought Final, while Clubs on Flames secured third position after defeating Golfing Eagles in the playoff earlier in the day. Gracing the occasion as *Chief Guest, Dr. Chander Shekhar Khare, IAS,* presided over the prize distribution ceremony which saw Tee Birds winning the grand prize of 8 lakhs, followed by the first runners-up Shivalik Swingers and second runners-up Clubs on Flames taking home 6 lakhs and 3 lakhs respectively. Building on the foundation of its inaugural edition, Season 2 featured 16 teams comprising 16 players each competing across the Round Robin and Knockout stages. The league phase tested consistency through the individual Stableford format before transitioning into the fourball better ball Matchplay structure for the knockouts, culminating in a gripping Final that showcased both individual composure and collective execution.
In the championship Final, Tee Birds secured a 4.5–2.5 (4 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie) victory over Shivalik Swingers after a closely contested start. The singles were shared, with Col Rajiv Bahl winning with a margin of 2 & 1 for Shivalik Swingers and Brig HPS Dhillon winning the next game for Tee Birds with the same margin. The final lived up to its billing and midway through the contest, it could have been anybody' match. The result finally came down to who held their nerves better and the consistent thorough preparation of Tee birds showed and they emerged winners. The decisive edge came in the fourball better ball games. B. Chandra Sekhar and Kulwinder Singh set the tone with a dominant winning margin of 5 & 3, followed by a 2 & 1margin victory from Parminder Singh Sodhi and R K Meena. Vivek Sharma and Rahul Batra added a hard fought 1 up win, while Shivalik Swingers secured one doubles contest 2 up and halved another. Tee Birds’ ability to convert key moments across the doubles ultimately sealed the championship.Speaking on the successful conclusion of the second edition, VS Kundu, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, Organising Committee, Panchkula Golf League, said, “The second season reflects the steady evolution of the Panchkula Golf League into a competitive and well-regarded team event.
