Ligament injuries cases on rise: Livasa Hospital experts
Hoshiarpur 20 February ( PDL ) : While highlighting the growing incidence of ligament injuries among the general population, doctors at Livasa Hospital Hoshiarpur on Friday emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and scientific management. Addressing a press conference, Dr. Harpreet Singh Bhatia senior consultant– orthopaedics & joint replacement said,” Ligament and sports-related injuries are no longer limited to professional athletes. Increasingly, such injuries are being reported during routine activities such as gym workouts, running, cricket, football, and even simple knee twisting movements.”
Dr. Gurminder Singh consultant–orthopaedics & joint replacement said, “The delayed diagnosis is one of the most common reasons patients develop long-term complications. Ignoring early symptoms such as knee swelling, instability, or repeated sprains can lead to chronic pain, meniscus damage, joint instability, and early arthritis if left untreated.
Ligament injuries are preventable and treatable, early treatment can save the joint and prevent future disability, said Dr. Harpreet He emphasized that timely clinical examination and MRI, when required, play a crucial role in preventing long-term joint damage and ensuring accurate diagnosis.
Dr. Gurminder explained that commonly seen injuries include ACL tears, meniscus injuries, ankle ligament sprains, and shoulder ligament injuries. Many patients initially rely on rest or painkillers, which may temporarily reduce discomfort but fail to address the underlying ligament damage.
Highlighting advances in treatment, Dr. Gurminder Singh said, “Modern orthopaedic techniques such as arthroscopic ligament reconstruction enable minimally invasive repair with faster recovery, reduced pain, and better functional outcomes. With proper physiotherapy and structured rehabilitation, patients can safely return to daily activities and sports.”
Prevention tips: • Proper warm-up and stretching before sports or workouts, • Correct exercise technique, • Strengthening of quadriceps and hamstring muscles, • Maintaining healthy body weight, • Wearing appropriate sports footwear, • Seeking early physiotherapy after any sprain or injury
