PIB Jaipur Journalists’ Delegation Visits Science City in Kapurthala
Chandigarh/Kapurthala 21 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A delegation of journalists from the Press Information Bureau, Jaipur, visited Science City in Kapurthala. On the occasion, the Public Relations Officer of Science City, Mr. Ashni Kumar, stated that with the aim of fostering a scientific temper and nurturing curiosity and innovation among students and the general public, Science City has been established across 72 acres on the Jalandhar–Kapurthala road. It is the largest science initiative of its kind in the country, primarily dedicated to popularizing science through the concept of “edutainment” (education blended with entertainment). At the Space Theatre, a majestic globe-shaped edifice houses a 328-seat, state-of-the-art auditorium, renowned for its large screen—ten times larger than a conventional 35 mm screen. Its exterior façade, crafted from 2.5 million computer-designed tiles, stands as a striking example of modern architectural excellence.
The Digital Planetarium, equipped with an advanced multi-channel digital system, offers visitors an immersive experience of the star-studded sky, planets, constellations, and the seasonal transformations of the cosmos. The Virtual Expedition (Flight Simulator), featuring 30 seats, delivers lifelike experiences of space voyages, high-speed racing tracks, and exhilarating roller-coaster rides. He further noted that the Virtual 3-D Show, with objects seemingly emerging from the screen and enhanced by dynamic sound-and-light effects, captivates audiences. The Indoor Laser Show, presented through a spectacular fusion of sound, light, and mist, transports viewers into a realm of wonder.The Space Gallery (Cosmos) showcases satellites, the solar system, launch vehicles, life in space, and diverse applications of space technology. The Fun Science Gallery features nearly 100 interactive exhibits that elucidate fundamental scientific principles in an engaging manner. Virtual Reality / Cyber Space captivates both children and adults alike, presenting the workings of the internet, computers, and digital technologies in an engaging and imaginative manner.The Amazing Living Machine (Health Gallery) enables visitors to observe blood circulation through a towering 12-foot heart model.
The Dinosaur Park, among the largest in the country, displays 44 life-size dinosaurs, some positioned beneath a volcanic structure with synchronized sound and motion effects.The State-Level Energy Education and Awareness Park highlights renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, water, and bio-energy, with all exhibits powered by 20 kilowatts of solar energy. The Earthquake Simulator, accommodating 30 participants, recreates the sensation of a real seismic event. The Defence Gallery exhibits significant military assets, including the Vijayanta tank used in 1971, a MiG-23 aircraft, missiles, and torpedoes. The Rail Gallery, developed in collaboration with the Railway Board, presents detailed dioramas of Indian Railways and iconic global rail projects, including the Kalka–Shimla Railway, the Jammu–Srinagar Rail Link (Udhampur–Baramulla project), Japan’s bullet train, and the Delhi Metro. A diesel engine simulator offers an authentic train-driving experience. The Climate Change Theatre, set within an 18-meter-diameter dome, is a distinctive object theatre that vividly illustrates the impacts of climate change and global warming through cutting-edge technology, light, and sound. Life Through the Ages (Evolution Gallery) narrates the saga of Earth’s formation and the evolution of life using 2D, 3D, and half-relief models.
