Khemkaran 18 February ( PDL ) : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today committed to stop Punjab’s waters from flowing into Rajasthan, asserting the next SAD government would divert water flowing into the Rajasthan feeder canal to irrigate the fields of Punjab. Addressing a massive rally attended by thousands as part of the Punjab Bachao, Sukhbir Singh Badal Lyao campaign of the party at the grain market in Amarkot, the SAD president said “we will undo the discrimination done unto the State by the Congress party which gave away half of our River waters to Rajasthan in contravention of the Riparian Principle which is clear that River water belongs to the State in which it flows”. Sukhbir Badal also made it clear that the SAD would not allow chief minister Bhagwant Mann to compromise the interests of the State by allowing water to be given to Haryana through the SYL canal because the centre was in possession of a file listing his 2500 acre land purchase in Australia. “This is the reason why Bhagwant Mann has now softened his stand on this issue and publicly declared he is open to discussing ways and means to hand over Punjab’s waters to Haryana”.

Amidst widespread applause while being flanked by party’s Khemkaran halqa incharge Virsa Singh Valtoha, the SAD president also announced that once the SAD formed the government in 2027 it would end the gangster culture and drug mafia raj once and for all. “We will change laws to deny such elements bail for ten years besides auctioning their properties” Urging people to beware of the AAP government’s bid to hand over precious real estate to Delhi based companies, Badal said “earlier the SAD stopped the government from giving away 34,000 acres of land in Ludhiana to private companies at a pittance. Now the government has decided to hand over real estate in Mohali at half prices to handpicked companies. The SAD is committed to cancelling all such auctions and will also proceed against officers who become party to these shady deals”, he added. The SAD president also made a fervent appeal to Punjabis to stop experimenting with new political parties in every election. “If we have to save Punjab then we must bring the SAD back into power. I promise you that like my father Parkash Singh Badal I will take Punjab ahead by leaps and bounds”. He also gave the example of how AAP had hollowed the State to such an extent that chief minister Bhagwant Mann had become a figurehead with the entire CMO being controlled by Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant – Bibhav Kumar. He also detailed how industrialist Rajinder Gupta was made to cough up Rs 75 crore for a Rajya Sabha nomination and Lovely University owner Ashok Mittal paid Rs 50 crore for the nomination.

Badal also announced a number of commitments to the people of Punjab covering all sections of society. Speaking about the farmers, Badal said tubewell connections would be given to all those who do not have one within one week of the formation of the next SAD government. He also announced establishment of ‘pucca bundhs’ on rivers to deal with floods, assured grant of land rights to those who had been denied this right till now and free partition of joint ownership of land. Speaking about how the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party had first reduced and were now denying social welfare benefits to the underprivileged, Badal said “we are committed to augmenting all social welfare schemes which were started by Parkash Singh Badal besides creating more new schemes for the weaker sections”. He said the atta- daal scheme would be restarted with atta being given @Rs 4 per kg and daal @Rs 20 per kg. “Rs one lakh wedding assistance will be given to the poorer sections and old age pension will be hiked to Rs 3100 per month”. He also announced that all land covered under the ‘lal dora’ in villages would be registered in the names of the possessors, all kutcha houses would be rebuilt on modern lines and all village streets would be paved with concrete.

Explaining how new jobs and avenues would be opened for the youth and all new industries would have to hire 75 per cent Punjabi youth, Badal said all government jobs would be available for Punjabis only. He also announced that an Rs 10 lakh interest free loan would be available to youth which they could return within a period of ten years. He said the next SAD government would ensure 50 per cent reservation to students of meritorious schools in government as well as private engineering and medical colleges.The SAD president also announced that the Thein dam would be developed as a tourism hub and that the Rahat scheme which was a lump sum tax collection scheme from traders would be restarted. He also announced that motor cycles would be exempted from road tax and the restart of the World Kabaddi Cup and institution of a new Kushti Cup. “Pashu Melas will be encouraged even while a Race Course would be constructed for Marwari horses besides encouraging Kabootar baazi sport”. Senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia talked about the distress of farmers and how farm suicides had increased besides stating that Punjab needed delivery and not dialogue from the AAP government. Others who spoke on the occasion included Virsa Singh Valtoha, Alwinderpal Singh Pakhoke, Gaurav Singh Valtoha, Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa and Sarabjit Singh Jhinjher.
