NSS Cell & Red Ribbon Club observe World Cancer Day-2026 at Central University of Punjab
Bathinda 5 February ( PDL ) : The NSS Cell and Red Ribbon Club of Central University of Punjab, under the aegis of the DST-PURSE Scheme, organized an Awareness Rally and Speech Competition on the university campus to mark World Cancer Day-2026. Conducted as part of Scientific Social Responsibilities (SSR) activities, the programme focused on spreading awareness about cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and compassionate care, in alignment with the global theme “United by Unique.”Held under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the event commenced with a Cancer Awareness Walk, in which students and participants actively took part to sensitize the university community about the importance of early detection and preventive measures. The rally conveyed a strong message of collective responsibility towards cancer awareness and public health.
The formal proceedings commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director, Research & Development, who emphasized the role of educational institutions in fostering awareness and community engagement to address public health challenges such as cancer. This was followed by a briefing on the rules and regulations of the competitions. A Speech Competition was subsequently held, with enthusiastic participation by school students from Govt. High School, Kotguru, who articulated their perspectives on cancer awareness, prevention, and social responsibility. The programme also featured the declaration of results of the Poster Making and Slogan Writing competitions conducted on January 29, 2026, along with the results of the speech competition.
Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director, IQAC, presented prizes to the winners of the competitive events. In the Poster Competition, Shrishti Kumari (Microbiology) secured the first position, followed by Sayan Das (HGMM) in second place, while the third position was jointly awarded to Bithika Das, Anam Chaudhary, and Vishal (Microbiology). In the Slogan Competition, Pawan Kumar (HGMM) won the first prize, Sahit Kashyap (HGMM) secured the second position, and Mansi Devi (Botany) stood third. The School-level Speech Competition saw Jasmeen Kaur clinching the first position, followed by Amanpreet in second place and Navneet Kaur in third. In the School-level Poster Competition, Jaspreet Kaur bagged the first prize, Sukhman secured second position, while Amanpreet Kaur was awarded the third prize. The programme concluded with concluding remarks and a vote of thanks by Prof. Raj Kumar, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products, marking a meaningful and impactful observance of World Cancer Day at the university. The event was successfully co-ordinated by DST-PURSE Fellows.
