Preparations for the February 12th strike by UT and MC employees are in full swing.
Chandigarh 5 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : UT and MC employees are making full preparations to ensure the success of the strike called by the Federation of UT Employees and Workers, Chandigarh, on February 12, 2026. In preparation for the strike, gate meetings were held today at the electricity office in Sector 15, the Municipal Corporation horticulture booth in Sector 15, the Water Supply booths in Sectors 12 and 4, and the road booth in Sector 25. Addressing the gate meetings, Federation President Gopal Dutt Joshi, General Secretary Rajendra Katoch, Joint Secretary Harkesh Chand, Vice President and General Secretary of CSC Horticulture M.M. Subramaniam, President of UT Power Man Union Amrik Singh, Vice Presidents Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu, Satkar Singh, Navneet Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Virender Singh, Kashmir Singh, and CSC Horticulture Department's Cashier Hardeep Singh, Vice President Budhram, Rajendra Kumar, Public Health President Harpal Singh, Vice President Sikandar Sharma, Cashier Hanif Mohammad, Rupinder Singh, Ram Sanjeevan, Gurdev Singh, Harjit Singh, Sukhdeep Singh, and others appealed to all employees to participate in the strike on February 12th. They stated that the strike is being held to demand:
* The immediate implementation of the terms and conditions of the Eighth Pay Commission and a 20% interim relief. * The repeal of the four labor codes created by replacing 29 labor laws. * The regularization of all temporary employees who have completed 10 years of service and the implementation of equal pay for equal work until regularization. * The immediate absorption of outsourced employees into government departments. * The repeal of the PFRDA Act and the restoration of the old pension scheme. * The halting of the privatization of government departments. * The immediate filling of all vacant promotional posts in all departments and the regularization of contract employees in direct recruitment posts. * The adjustment of electricity employees transferred to private companies by the Chandigarh administration back into the administration's electricity department and other departments. * The cancellation of the dismissal orders of crèche workers and helpers and their reinstatement. * The reinstatement of employees who were retired at 60 years instead of 65 years. * The bringing of parks and green belts under the Horticulture Department. * The repeal of ESMA imposed in the electricity and transport departments. * The cancellation of FIRs registered against employees. * The repeal of Articles 310, 311 2 A B C of the Constitution. * The immediate reinstatement of employees laid off by the Municipal Corporation.* The reduction of the ESI deduction limit to at least Rs. 50,000. * The implementation of the Central Government Health Scheme for UT employees. * Benefits for the families of deceased employees.
This strike is being held in support of demands such as providing jobs to dependents by removing the 5% ceiling, implementing DC rates for crèche/Anganwadi workers, and immediately providing employees with oil, soap, and uniforms. Federation officials appealed to employees of all departments to participate in large numbers in the strike on February 12th and make the rally in Sector 17 a success.
