Chandigarh 14 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Chandigarh witnessed an interaction with the Punjabi diaspora in the presence of Union Minister Virendra Kumar and BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, where overseas Punjabis from India and abroad engaged in a detailed dialogue. Addressing the gathering, Tarun Chugh said the Bharatiya Janata Party does not identify a person by the colour of their passport but by the Indian DNA within them and their commitment to the motherland. He stated that since 26 May 2014, India has carved out a new identity on the global stage. Today, India stands among the world’s leading economies and is one of the fastest-growing nations, having made remarkable progress in infrastructure, defence exports and global stature.Chugh said that while the country has gathered momentum in development, Punjab must introspect. Agriculture, industry, commerce and services — the four pillars of any economy — need renewed direction in the state. He pointed out that rising fiscal pressures, lack of large-scale investment and the migration of youth are serious concerns, and without firm policy direction and decisive leadership, the situation will not change.
He added that Punjab needs a double-engine government to align state policies with central initiatives and accelerate development. He assured the diaspora that under a BJP government, NRI investments would be safeguarded, governance would be transparent, law and order would be strengthened, and a conducive industrial environment would be created. There would be zero tolerance towards terrorism, crime and corruption.
Addressing the programme, Union Minister Virendra Kumar said that the Indian diaspora is a vital partner in India’s progress. He emphasised that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is working with the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” and that the active participation of overseas Punjabis can infuse new energy into Punjab’s development journey. He expressed confidence that with collective efforts, Punjab can once again move to the forefront of growth and opportunity.
