Federation of UT Employees and Workers Chandigarh, along with the Working Women Committee and Janwadi Stree Sabha, observed Women's Day as Rights Day, Anti-Exploitation Day, and Equality Day
Chandigarh 8 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Women's Day was observed today, March 8, 2026, at Sector 30, Chandigarh, as Rights Day, Anti-Exploitation Day, and Equality Day by the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, Indian Council for Child Welfare Employees Union, Working Women Committee, and Janwadi Stree Sabha Chandigarh, all affiliated with the Federation of UT Employees and Workers Chandigarh. The program was presided over by Asha Rana, Sulochana, and Zarina Bano from Janwadi Stree Sabha; Rekha Gora, Vice President of the Federation; Neelam Kumari, President of Anganwadi Workers; Renu, Working Women’s Convenor; Rekha Sharma, Convenor of the Working Women Committee; and Sunita Sharma, President of the Indian Council for Child Welfare.
While inaugurating the event, Comrade Zarina Bano highlighted the importance of Women's Day and stated that although the women’s struggle that began in 1908 has now completed 116 years, there has been no significant change in women’s rights. Exploitation of women continues in society, and women still have to struggle to achieve equal rights. Asha Rana, Secretary of Janwadi Stree Sabha, and Sulochana said that this year Women's Day is being observed as Anti-Exploitation Day and Rights Day. Former Vice President of the Federation and Convenor of the Working Women Committee Rekha Sharma stated that women must come forward themselves to fight for their rights, and the struggle for equality should begin from their own homes.
Sunita Sharma, President of the Indian Council for Child Welfare, and Rekha Gora, National Executive Member of the All India State Government Employees Federation, expressed gratitude to the large number of women who participated in the program and appealed to them to continue their campaign and struggle. Neelam Kumari, President of Anganwadi Workers, and Renu, General Secretary, stated that women working in government schemes are being openly exploited and forced to live a life similar to bonded labour. They added that crèche and Anganwadi workers are being arbitrarily removed from their jobs and harassed, and therefore there is a need to unite and launch a movement against the government and administration.Apart from them, Kumari Vaishali, Smt. Neelam Devi, Priyanka Jaswal, and Vigneshwari also addressed the gathering. Gopal Dutt Joshi, President of the Federation of UT Employees and Workers Chandigarh; Rajendra Katoch, President; M. M. Subrahmanyam, Vice President; Bihari Lal, Harpal Singh; Dinesh Prasad from CITU; M. S. Gorsi, Nagendra Kumar, and Kailash Mandal from Janwadi Naujawan Sabha also expressed their views. They said that capitalists have limited Women's Day to dancing and celebrations, whereas the present time demands strong, united struggles for the upliftment and rights of women.
