Issue of Misuse of Employees Raised in F&CC Meeting; Councillor Jasbir Singh Bunty Levels Serious Allegations Against Officials
Chandigarh 01 April ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : During the F&CC (Finance & Contract Committee) meeting of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation held on March 30, the atmosphere turned tense when Councillor Jasbir Singh Bunty raised serious questions regarding the functioning of officials.
Councillor Bunty alleged that three employees from Road Division No. 1 were arbitrarily transferred to Division No. 2, which has adversely affected development works in his ward. He further claimed that Jaspreet Singh (MTS) was being taken along by an SDO without any official permission and was being used for personal tasks, such as driving, which is against the rules.
He also raised the issue of Charanpreet Singh, stating that prior to his transfer, he was working in the R-10 area, whereas his duty was officially assigned in R-6. When the councillor sought clarification from the officials, no satisfactory response was provided. Officials reportedly admitted that the employee was working “illegally” in R-10, but failed to clarify under whose instructions this was happening.
During the meeting, a statement made by an अधिकारी that “I can deploy my division staff wherever I want” reflected administrative arbitrariness and lack of accountability. Councillor Bunty further stated that after the transfer of Jaspreet Singh, Charanpreet Singh, and Parminder Singh, several works in his ward have been pending, causing inconvenience to the general public.
He urged the Mayor to order a fair inquiry into the matter and take strict action against the responsible officials. He also questioned how such irregularities could occur despite the implementation of a biometric attendance system in the Municipal Corporation. Accusing the municipal administration of misleading the public, the councillor warned that if prompt action is not taken, the issue will be raised at a larger platform.
