Mahashivratri Celebrated with Worship and Fanfare at Sri Periya Naazhi Ammal Temple/Kali Mata Temple
Chandigarh 24 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Mahashivratri was celebrated with great devotion and pomp at the historic Sri Periya Naazhi Ammal Temple. On this auspicious occasion, the Tamil community organized special pujas, abhishekam, and rituals in accordance with Vedic rites. A large number of devotees participated and received the blessings of Lord Shiva/Bholenath. A special worship of Lord Shiva was performed within the temple premises. Devotees from far and wide lined up to offer prayers and seek darshan. The entire atmosphere reverberated with devotional hymns and Tamil traditional chants of "Om Namah Shivaya." R. Velu, President of the Sri Periya Nazhagi Ammal Temple/Kali Mata Temple, stated that with the divine blessings of the Goddess, the sacred festival of Mahashivratri was celebrated with great joy and devotion at the Kali Mata Temple located in the forest area of Dhanas.
The Mahashivratri festival began on February 15, 2026, with Lord Shiva worshipped with full rituals. Eight days later, on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the Mayana Kollai festival was celebrated. During these eight days, worship continued at the temple, and then, on February 22, the grand festival was held in the temple premises, starting in the morning and continuing until midnight. He stated that on the day of the grand festival, Periya Nazhagi Ammal, the form of Goddess Parvati, was worshipped, and Tamil devotees also took part in a procession with a trident piercing her tongue and cheek.
On this occasion R. Velu President [PNATMC], Pastor Thiru Periyasamy, Nadesan General Secretary, Anand Vel-Finance Secretary, Sarveswari-Finance Secretary and Mathru-Joint Secretary along with Executive Member Ilaiyaraaja, former members Shankar, Siddharth and Women's Additional Group Manasa, Admin Selvi, Admin Anjalai, Admin Kolanji, Admin Alemelu Manasa, Rani and a large number of devotees were also present and celebrated the Kolai Thiruvilaya Festival with great pomp and show.
