Theatre workshop being organised at Institute for Development and Communication (IDC)
Chandigarh 4 February ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Dr.Sweety Ruhel, a theatre practitioner, in association with Thinkers Collective is organising a five day workshop at city-based Institute for Development and Communication (IDC). A theatre director, educator, and practitioner working across India, Ruhel is a specialist in Theatre and Design Techniques from the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. “I aim to bridge the gap between academic theory and stage practice through innovative and interdisciplinary devising,” she says. An architect of T.E.C.H. (Training Experiment in Comic Humour), a specialised workshop series that explores the mechanics of comedy through a practical- theoretical lens, she says that the ongoing workshop, attended by students from across the region aims to make the participants more aware about their bodies, mind, expressions and surroundings
Ruhel who has conducted more than 20 workshops across the country, besides staging 14 theatre productions adds, “There is just too much chaos all around. Using comedy as a tool helps in dealing with several stressful situations. In fact, one of my workshop was also attended by a psychoanalyst. Dr Pramod Kumar, Chairperson of IDC who conceived Thinkers Collective stresses that theatre is instrumental introducing youngsters to their different facets. “This major art form has also played an important role in key social movements across the world. At Thinkers Collective, we are committed to bringing forward young practitioners of diverse art forms.”
