CU Punjab’s Initiative to Empower Youth for a Skilled Punjab: Six New Skill Development Courses Launched to Foster Employability and Self-Reliance

Six NCVET-Approved Job-Oriented Skill Courses in Computers, Accounting, Electrical, Carpentry and Healthcare Launched at CU Punjab 

Bathinda 6 March ( PDL ) : In a significant step towards strengthening skill-based education and promoting employability among youth of Punjab, the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), Bathinda has launched National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF)-aligned 6 (Six) new Skill Development Courses approved by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.

The initiative was spearheaded under the visionary leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari with the aim to equip young learners with job-oriented skills and contribute to the national vision of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” and “Viksit Bharat” envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Earlier, the University was granted the “Deemed Awarding Body – Dual Status” by NCVET, enabling it to conduct skill-based training programmes, carry out assessments, and award nationally recognized certificates to successful candidates.

The University has announced the commencement of six new skill development courses on its campus, with classes scheduled to begin from April 2026. These include Fundamentals of Computers (120 hours), Introduction to Tally Operations and GST Calculations (120 hours), Biomedical Waste Management for Nursing and Paramedical Staff (30 hours), Assistant Carpenter (40 hours), Helper Electrician (270 hours), and Essentials of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (15 hours). Admissions to these courses are now open, and interested candidates can register online through the University’s official website www.cup.edu.in.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari stated that the introduction of these courses reflects the University’s commitment to promoting skill-oriented education and enhancing employability among youth. He emphasized that the programmes will provide practical training and industry-relevant competencies, enabling learners to secure employment or pursue self-employment opportunities. He further added that all six courses will be offered at a very nominal fee structure, ensuring greater accessibility for aspiring learners. Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma informed that these courses are designed to significantly enhance the employability of youth by providing hands-on training and practical knowledge aligned with industry requirements. He added that the programmes will particularly benefit rural youth aged 15 years and above who have completed Class 8, 10, or 12 and are currently unemployed, enabling them to acquire market-relevant skills.

The Central University of Punjab is a reputed higher education institution known for excellence in quality education and research, offering more than 100 academic programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels across disciplines such as humanities, social sciences, sciences, law, management, and computer science. The launch of these NCVET-approved skill development programmes marks another important milestone in the University’s efforts to promote skill development, entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth. Through this initiative, CU Punjab aims to empower youth with practical competencies while supporting the national goal of building a skilled, self-reliant, and empowered workforce.
