NABARD Inaugurates Key Initiatives to Strengthen WomenLed and Farmer Collectives in Haryana
Chairman NABARD, Dr Shaji KV flagged off programmes in Kaithal and Karnal
Chandigarh 12 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A series of important rural development initiatives aimed at empowering women farmers, strengthening farmer producer organisations (FPOs), enhancing valueaddition capacity and advancing climateresilient infrastructure, were inaugurated by NABARD in Kaithal and Karnal districts on 12 March 2026. NABARD Chairman, Dr Shaji KV flagged off initiatives aimed at supporting womenled enterprises, diversifying livelihood opportunities and promoting sustainable rural prosperity in Haryana. In Kaithal district’s Pharal village, he laid the foundation stone of the Saras Dhara Milk Processing Unit and inaugurated the Viksit FPO Mustard Oil Processing Unit and its sales outlet. NABARD also organised a Credit Outreach Programme at the village, bringing together banks, implementing agencies, FPO representatives and beneficiaries to strengthen credit linkages for rural enterprises. The Chairman also handed over sanction letters/ cheques to members of Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) and to Kharkhoda Block Organic FPO & Jind Kisan Jan Nirman FPO, both promoted under Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, to facilitate access to credit for livelihood and farm-based activities. A Rainwater Harvesting Recharge Well constructed at the Government Senior Secondary School, Pharal, was also formally handed over to the community.
Chairman Dr Shaji also inaugurated a Dairy Processing Unit (Bilona Ghee Making) promoted by the women-led FPO Haryana Atulya Nari Shakti (HANS) at Manglora village in Karnal district and interacted with women members and beneficiaries. Reflecting on his visit, Chairman Dr Shaji KV said, “Haryana has emerged as a state where progressive institutions, strong farmer collectives and womenled enterprises are driving rural transformation. With over a decade of work in promoting womenled FPOs and mobilising nearly 13,000 women across the state, NABARD remains deeply committed to strengthening their entrepreneurial pathways. NABARD’s support—whether through digitised PACS, innovative agritech interventions or the promotion of womenled FPOs—aims to ensure that rural communities have the tools, credit access and market linkages they need to thrive. The initiatives launched today further strengthen this foundation and reaffirm our commitment to building a resilient and inclusive rural economy.”
During FY 2025–26, NABARD recorded ₹30,050 crore in disbursements in refinance and direct finance, significantly surpassing last year disbursements, reflecting robust demand for development finance across sectors. This growth was underpinned by balanced credit flow through multiple channels, including ₹14,779 crore in refinance disbursements, ₹13,660 crore under direct lending, and ₹1,612 crore released through the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for critical rural infrastructure. These achievements underscore NABARD’s central role in strengthening Haryana’s agricultural and rural economy. On this occasion Nivedita Tiwary, CGM NABARD Haryana also addressed the gathering which witnessed participation from senior officials from banks, development institutions, research organisations, farmers and women.
