Chandigarh 28 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The stage is set for the much-awaited Chandigarh Polo Season 2026 with the prestigious Maharaja Ranjit Singh Polo Cup scheduled to commence from March 29, 2026 at the Chandigarh Polo Club. The week-long polo extravaganza will bring together top polo teams, players and horses from across the country which makes it one of North India’s most prominent polo events. Remount Veterinary Corps will take on Artillery in the tournament opener on Sunday
In a significant build-up to the tournament, horse vans from various defence establishments and polo clubs across India arrived in Chandigarh late Friday evening. More than 80 polo horses along with their players had arrived in the city for the tournament which is highlighting the scale and importance of the event. A few defence teams begin practice sessions and acclimatization on Saturday. An astonishing feature of this year’s event is that all Arena Polo matches will be played under floodlights, offering a unique viewing experience for spectators. The matches will begin daily from 4:30 pm, making the event more spectator-friendly and accessible for the public.
Earlier, a delegation of the Chandigarh Polo Association led by its President Dilpreet Singh Sidhu met Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria to express gratitude for the Administration’s continued support towards promoting polo in the region and to formally invite him to the week-long polo season. The Governor graciously accepted the invitation and assured the organisers that he would visit the Chandigarh Polo Club to witness the royal game on one of the days during the tournament.
The tournament is being conducted under the aegis of the Indian Polo Association in collaboration with the Chandigarh Polo Association. The season will feature participation from multiple distinguished teams including hosts GB Legends Chandigarh , Army Service Corps, Remount Veterinary Corps, Artillery, Mayo College Ajmer, Punjab Team, Haryana Team and the First Steps. Apart from the matches, the polo season will also feature a number of social and cultural events, including a Sufi Baithak on the opening day, Ladies Boots & Hats High Tea and a grand Gala Night, making the polo season not just a sporting event but a major social calendar attraction in the region.
