He also demanded Rs 50 crore to Rs 70 crores annual research grant for the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana to improve the research facilities for better agriculture. World Kidney Day: 100 take part in walkathon at Sukhna Lake
Chandigarh 11 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : As many as 100 people, including patients and healthcare professionals participated in a Shalby Hospital’s walkathon on the eve of World Kidney Day at Sukhna Lake on Wednesday. Speaking during the occasion, Dr. Prof KL Gupta, senior nephrologist at Shalby Hospital Mohali highlighted the escalating crisis of chronic kidney disease. He said,” In India, chronic kidney disease affects nearly 15-17% of the adult population – over 200 million people – with Punjab reporting even steeper rates of 20-25% in urban and rural pockets, per recent Indian Society of Nephrology data. Diabetes and hypertension, the primary culprits responsible for 60-75% of cases nationwide (and similarly in Punjab), are driving this towards epidemic proportions, Dr. Gupta warned.
