Ahead of BJP rally, Congress’ Mohit Mohindra mounts attack

Mohindra questions ‘Khelo India’ allotment, asks why was Gujarat given 7X funds compared to Punjab?

Mohit Mohindra to BJP: With what face are you coming to Punjab?

Chandigarh/Patiala 13 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) :  Ahead of BJP’s rally in Punjab, President Punjab Youth Congress Mohit Mohindra today strongly condemned the discriminatory policies of the Central Government against the state of Punjab and questioned the intentions behind their latest visit. Reminding the people of BJP’s step-motherly treatment towards Punjab, Mohit Mohindra questioned the allotment of funds under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme. He said, “In the 2024 Olympic Games held in Paris, out of India’s contingent of 117 athletes, 19 athletes belonged to Punjab, while only 2 athletes were from Gujarat. Despite Punjab’s significant contribution to India’s sporting excellence, the BJP-led Central Government allocated only ₹78.02 crore to Punjab for sports infrastructure development, whereas Gujarat received a massive ₹426-606 crore. WHY?”

Mohindra added, “Punjab continues to bring glory to the nation in sports, yet when it comes to funding and support, the Centre deliberately sidelines our state.” He further raised a series of critical questions for the BJP leadership: • Why has the Rural Development Fund (RDF) meant for Punjab been withheld by the Centre? • Why has the Revenue Deficit Grant due to Punjab not been released? • Why has the Central Government failed to provide proper support to Punjab’s farmers in terms of MSP guarantees, loan waivers, and incentives?• What is the Centre’s policy regarding the supply and pricing of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and other fertilizers that directly affect Punjab’s farmers? • Why did the Centre sign international trade agreement with US that threatens the livelihood of Punjab’s agricultural community? • Why did Punjab receive such meagre financial aid during last year’s devastating floods?

Mohindra also expressed grave concern over national security and the drug menace. He said the Border Security Force (BSF), which functions under the Central Government and now operates up to 50 kilometers inside Punjab, had failed to stop the large-scale smuggling of drugs across the border. “Through this border, drugs continue to enter Punjab and destroy our youth. Entire generations have been affected, yet the BJP government remains indifferent,” he said. He further questioned the Centre regarding over 200 kg of heroin seized at Kandla Port in Gujarat back in 2022, asking why the truth behind such incidents had never been fully disclosed.

“After neglecting Punjab for years and repeatedly denying our rights, the BJP now wants to hold rallies here. The people of Punjab deserve to know — why is the BJP even coming here? Are they bringing anything new for the people, or are they here only to continue exploiting the state and its resources?” Mohindra asked. He concluded by stating that the people of Punjab are fully aware of this discrimination and will not tolerate any further attempts to undermine the dignity, rights, and future of the state.
