Green Belt Being Converted into Garbage Processing Plant: A Major Threat to the Locality : Hardev Singh Ubha
S.A.S.Nagar 18 April ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A matter of serious concern has come to light in the areas adjacent to Mohali—specifically Sahi Majra Phase-2, Phase-5, and surrounding residential and industrial zones—where green belts are being converted into garbage processing plants. Due to its close proximity to industries and residential areas, this location has become a major threat to human health and the environment.
Participating in the sit-in staged today against this issue, Hardev Singh Ubha, State Press Secretary of BJP Punjab, stated that this plant is being established right next to the power grid, thereby posing a constant risk of a major accident occurring at any time. It appears that the administration is waiting for a major accident, which constitutes extremely serious negligence.
He stated that the District Magistrate, the Municipal Corporation, the concerned government departments, and the Bhagwant Mann government have maintained a complete silence on this matter, and the government has remained a mere spectator. This situation amounts to playing with the lives of the people in the area.
Issuing a warning to the Bhagwant Mann government, Hardev Singh Ubha stated that it must intervene in this matter immediately and halt the construction of the garbage processing plant currently being built in the green belt. He said that ensuring the safety of industries and residential areas is the government's responsibility. In conclusion, he stated that if immediate action is not taken, a massive agitation will be launched in collaboration with the people, and this issue will be raised at every level.
