Aged patient with myelodysplastic syndrome treated successfully at Livasa Hospital Khanna Khanna 22 May ( PDL ) : An 86-year-old male patient with myelodysplastic syndrome which was progressing towards acute myeloid leukemia (AML), along with other serious medical conditions, was treated successfully at Livasa Hospital Khanna recently. The patient was suffering from severe sepsis, shock, pneumonia, acute kidney injury, and other multiple associated complications. The patient was brought with complaints of fever, abdominal pain, and loose stools for nearly three weeks. Upon detailed evaluation, doctors at Livasa identified severe anemia, critically low platelet count, elevated white blood cell count, and acute kidney injury. Further investigations, including serum protein electrophoresis and peripheral blood smear, indicated significant abnormalities suggestive of a serious hematological disorder. A female neonate, born at 35 weeks of gestation with a low birth weight of 1.97 kg, was brought to the emergency on the fourth day of life in respiratory failure. The baby had been intubated at an outside facility prior to arrival. Upon admission, detailed evaluation revealed severe neonatal sepsis with acute renal failure.
