He also demanded Rs 50 crore to Rs 70 crores annual research grant for the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana to improve the research facilities for better agriculture. St. Stephen's School Choir Captivates Audience at Irish Embassy’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
Chandigarh 18 March ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : At an elegant reception hosted by the Irish Embassy at the iconic Imperial Hotel, the Senior Choir of St. Stephen’s School, delivered a performance that was as enchanting as it was evocative. The occasion, celebrating the joyous spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, was attended by diplomats, dignitaries, and distinguished guests, all of whom were left spellbound by the choir’s harmonious blend and poised stage presence.
Dressed in shades of green to honour the spirit of the celebration, the choir reflected both thematic unity and cultural sensitivity. A particularly stirring moment came with the rendition of the national anthems, Jana Gana Mana and Amhrán na bhFiann. The Irish anthem, led in its native tongue by Kevin Kelly, Irish Ambassador to India, along with Sophie Rogan, and joined by the choir and audience alike, created a deeply moving atmosphere of shared pride and international camaraderie.
The choir’s repertoire formed a vibrant tapestry of Irish melodies, including Forty Shades of Green, When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, Like a Bird Without Wings, Gold and Silver Days, The Town I Love So Well, and Take Me Home. Each piece was rendered with finesse, capturing both the lyrical beauty and emotional depth of Irish musical tradition. The evening was further enriched by insightful addresses from Rossa Fanning, Attorney General of Ireland; Kevin Kelly, Irish Ambassador to India; and Mr. Sibi George, Secretary in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, all of whom reflected on the enduring ties between India and Ireland.
Representing the school’s leadership, the Principal of St. Stephen’s School, Roy da Silva, attended the event on behalf of Director Harold Carver and Diana Carver. In a dual role that reflected his dedication, Mr. da Silva also conducted the choir, guiding the young performers with precision and passion, and bringing the evening to a resounding and memorable crescendo.
