Central University of Punjab Hosts Northeast Cultural Fest to Celebrate Unity in Diversity

Bathinda 09 April ( PDL ) : Under the esteemed patronage of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari and Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiran Hazarika, the students and faculty from Northeast India at the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) organized the “Northeast Cultural Fest”, marking a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural diversity. The festival aimed to bridge the knowledge gap between Northeast India and the rest of the country by showcasing the region’s unique traditions through folk dances, songs, and cultural performances. The event also highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, strengthening national integration, and promoting the Northeast as an integral and vibrant part of India.

The Northeast Cultural Fest was graced by the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tiwari, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hazarika, distinguished guest Gurprem Singh Lehr, Bureau Chief, Dainik Jagran Bathinda, along with the Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma, Finance Officer Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, faculty members including - Prof. Deepak Chauhan, Prof. Santosh Mohapatra, Prof. Rajan Bhandari - and a large number of students.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari appreciated the efforts of the organizers and reiterated the university’s commitment to promoting inclusiveness and building a cohesive academic environment. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiran Hazarika also lauded the initiative, emphasizing the Northeast as a hub of tourism and cultural diversity. Sharing his personal experiences, Mr. Gurprem Singh Lehri expressed his admiration for the Northeast, particularly recalling his visit to Nagaland, and presented a book based on his experiences to the Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor.

The programme commenced with the University Anthem and featured a series of captivating performances, including Assamese Bihu dance, Bodo dance, Manipuri dance, Arunachali dance, a Garo folk song, a folktale of the Angami tribe from Nagaland, and a traditional attire showcase representing all Northeastern states. The event concluded with the National Anthem, leaving the audience enriched with a deeper appreciation of India’s cultural plurality.
