CMC Horticulture Workers' Union Announces Joint Celebration of May Day on May 1st at Executive Committee Meeting
Chandigarh 20 April ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : An executive committee meeting of the CMC Horticulture Workers' Union, Chandigarh, was held today under the chairmanship of the Union President, Harkesh Chand. During the meeting, the struggles undertaken by the Union in the recent past were discussed. Expressing gratitude and appreciation to all office bearers and horticulture employees for the success of the strike held on February 12, 2026—and the subsequent continuous struggles—the Union's General Secretary, M.M. Subramaniam, lauded the unity of the leadership and the immense support provided by the employees for their magnificent participation in these struggles.
He further expressed his delight that, despite numerous obstacles, the horticulture employees successfully dismantled government barricades, kept the banner of struggle flying high, and continue to achieve remarkable victories. Recalling the sacrifices associated with May Day, Union Vice Presidents Budh Ram, Ajayab Singh, and Hardeep Singh appealed for a joint celebration of this international day this year. They stated that the Sanyukt Karamchari Morcha (Joint Employees' Front) and the Federation of UT Employees and Workers, Chandigarh, are observing this year's May Day as a pledge to liberate 20,000 temporary employees from exploitation.
Gopal Dutt Joshi—Union Advisor, President of the Federation, and Convener of the Sanyukt Karamchari Morcha—affirmed that on this May Day, the trade unions of Chandigarh will unite to take a solemn pledge to demand the repeal of the new Labour Codes, the regularization of temporary employees, and the implementation of "equal pay for equal work" until their services are regularized; furthermore, they will jointly launch a decisive struggle to achieve these objectives. During the meeting, a special resolution was passed demanding the revocation of the decision to hand over green belts and public parks to private societies. Finally, expressing his gratitude to all office bearers, Union President Harkesh Chand appealed to all employees to make the May Day gathering a resounding success, thereby demonstrating a powerful display of unity.
