Chandigarh 06 April ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The UT Powermen Union has strongly condemned the allotment of 61 houses from the Electricity Pool—made on March 27 and March 30, 2026, by the SE of Power Transmission and the Executive Engineers of the SLDC and Electrical Inspection wings—to officers and employees of the Engineering Department other than those belonging to the Electricity Wing. The Union has demanded an immediate CBI inquiry into this illegal allotment and has urged the Administrator of Chandigarh to intervene immediately to annul these allotments.
In this regard, while staging a protest today to demand strict action against the concerned officials, the Union's office bearers—including President Amrik Singh, General Secretary Gopal Dutt Joshi, and Vice Presidents Gurmeet Singh, Virender Singh, Surjit Singh, Bhupinder Singh, and Pan Singh—demanded the cancellation of these improperly executed allotments. Furthermore, they called for strict disciplinary action against the officials who, acting on the basis of illegality and nepotism, constituted an unauthorized committee and—bypassing established procedures—allotted Electricity Pool houses to employees of the Engineering Department who do not belong to the Electricity Wing. The Union functionaries pointed out that these allotments were made at a time when the Punjab and Haryana High Court had specifically directed the Administration to refrain from taking any provocative action until the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) delivered its final verdict on the matter.
Despite this, acting in the name of the House Allotment Committee (Electricity)—and without adhering to the prescribed procedure—they hastily proceeded to allot 51 houses on March 27 and another 10 houses on March 30 to their favorites. This was done without first preparing a provisional seniority list and inviting objections to it, or verifying the facts to compile a final seniority list; consequently, the electricity employees who rightfully held a claim to these houses were overlooked. What is shocking is that, notwithstanding the occurrence of such a massive irregularity—and despite the Central Administrative Tribunal issuing a stay order on these allotments on April 2, 2026—contempt of court is currently being committed by handing over the keys to these houses during the holidays on April 3 and 4.
Announcing their resolve to intensify the struggle, the speakers have appealed to the Honorable Administrator to intervene immediately to dissolve the aforementioned illegal Allotment Committee, quash the allotment orders, and refer the matter to the CBI for investigation.
