Kidney transplant at Livasa Hospital Amritsar gives new lease of life to student
Amritsar 10 April ( PDL ) : A 26-year-old male patient with IgA nephropathy condition, got a new lease of life after he underwent a successful kidney transplant at Livasa Hospital, Amritsar. IgA nephropathy is a progressive kidney disorder characterized by blood in urine and gradual decline in kidney function, said Dr. Radhika Garg, consultant-nephrologist & transplant physician, while addressing a press conference at a Livasa Hospital, Amritsar on Friday.
Dr. Radhika further said, “The patient, a student, had been battling worsening kidney disease since his diagnosis confirmed through a kidney biopsy in April 2024. His condition deteriorated over time, marked by rising creatinine levels and persistent hematuria, eventually progressing to end-stage renal disease. He had been on dialysis since January 2026.” Given the progressive nature of IgA Nephropathy and the limited long-term sustainability of dialysis, a kidney transplant became crucial for survival and restoration of quality of life, informed Dr. Radhika.
Dr. Pars Ram Saini, consultant-urologist & transplant surgeon said that with the patient's father as a living donor, the patient successfully underwent a kidney transplant at Livasa. The timely intervention not only saved his life but also offered him a chance to return to normalcy, free from lifelong dependence on dialysis, maintained Dr Saini. Anurag Yadav, CEO-Livasa Hospitals, said that the hospital is becoming the only licensed institute in the district offering kidney transplant services marks an important milestone in improving access to advanced healthcare.”
