Field employees to hold protest rally against Sewerage Board and Local Government Department on May 7
Chandigarh 26 April ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Due to non-redressal of long pending demands of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board employees, a protest will be held against the Sewerage Board and Local Government Department on May 7 at the head office, Municipal Bhawan, Chandigarh, Sector 35A. The leaders of PWD Field and Workshop Workers Union Punjab, State President Makhan Singh Wahipuri, General Secretary Phuman Singh Kathgarh, Senior Vice President Balraj Singh Maur, Rajpal Singh Lasoi, and Kishore Chand Gaj said that the demands of the employees are being deliberately ignored by the officers of the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Engineer.
According to the government notification, the implementation of the old pension scheme for the employees recruited before 2004 is being continuously postponed. Similarly, the officials of the Local Government Department are busy in stopping the pension case by writing return letters. Several meetings have been held with the senior officials of the employee organization and with the sub-committee formed under the leadership of the Finance Minister, Punjab Government. But these demands are not being resolved, due to which there is a lot of resentment and unrest among the field employees.
The employees working in the fields of the Sewerage Board and in the markets have not been paid their salaries for eight months. Most of the employees have passed away while waiting for their dues to retirees. The employees are being ignored after giving arrears. No policy is being made to regularize the raw employees who have been working for 20-20 years, just like the Jaglat department regularized its employees with 10 years of service, but the officials of the Sewerage Board are bringing new companies and imposing them on the contract employees, but there is no consideration to regularize them or merge them in the department, or increase their salaries. The leaders said that in protest against the non-implementation of the decisions of the meetings held many times and in relation to the non-implementation of the decisions of the government, a massive protest will be held at the Local Government Office, Sector 35 A on May 7, for which the entire responsibility will lie with the local governments and the officials of the Sewerage Board.
