Elections for Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Sector 78, Must Be Held Anew in Accordance with the Gurdwara Constitution and Sikh Rehat Maryada
S.A.S. Nagar 21 April ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Ravinder Singh, General Secretary of Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Sector 78, stated that the election for the President of Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Sector 78, was conducted in a highly improper manner and under duress. This is because the incumbent President, Sarabjit Singh, has continuously served as the President of the Gurdwara Sahib Committee for the past 10 years. However, according to the Gurdwara Constitution, a committee President is permitted to hold office for a maximum tenure of only two years. Together with Bhupinder Singh Somal, Nirmal Singh Sabharwal, Bhupinder Singh Dahri, and Satnam Singh Bhinder, he conspired to forcibly manipulate the entire electoral process. They unilaterally appointed an election board comprising three individuals—Bhupinder Singh Dahri, Satnam Singh Bhinder, and Swaran Singh—none of whom are *Amritdhari* (initiated Sikhs). Subsequently, without obtaining the approval of the *Sangat* (congregation), they installed Sewa Singh—an 85-year-old individual—as the President, bestowed a *Siropa* (robe of honor) upon him, and then all of them departed from the Gurdwara Sahib premises. As the General Secretary, I—Ravinder Singh—was completely prevented from taking any action, nor was any record of these proceedings entered into the Gurdwara Sahib Committee's Resolution/Action Register dated April 19, 2026. They forcibly utilized their own separate action register to record these proceedings and execute the decision without obtaining my signature, as the President had proceeded with the election without formally dissolving the previous committee. Therefore, I, Ravinder Singh, shall continue to hold the office of General Secretary. In response to the widespread opposition from the larger Sikh community, I intend to ensure that this election is conducted afresh. To this end, I will engage in discussions with the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib (Sri Amritsar Sahib), the Deputy Commissioner of S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) district, and the SDM of Mohali, to ensure that this election is re-conducted in strict adherence to the Gurdwara Constitution and the Sikh Rehat Maryada.
