Chandigarh 5 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhgaliwal ) : Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government for its theatrics of parading its MLAs in front of the President Drupadi Murmu. He pointed out, there is no law in the country that can seek recall of the elected legislators. In an informal interaction with reporters, Warring said, the move to parade the MLAs in Delhi was characteristic of AAP’s drama on which it has survived all these years.
“What is the purpose of presenting your MLAs before the President?” he asked, pointing out, nobody is questioning the AAP that it has lost its majority in Punjab. He noted, sometimes the Chief Ministers parade their MLAs before the President to prove their majority if it is challenged, but there is no such case in Punjab right now. He said, the stand taken by the AAP to urge the President to recall the defected Rajya Sabha MPs does not hold any legal or constitutional base. He said, once a legislator is elected, whether to the state assembly, Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha, he or she cannot be recalled, but can only be disqualified.
The PCC president noted, the AAP also knows it, but still wants to enact a drama in the national capital to divert the public attention and grab some headlines.
Replying to a question that the AAP was saying the MPs had betrayed it, Warring retorted, “didn’t they betray the people of Punjab and their own volunteers by nominating two outsiders and businessmen and industrialists to the Rajya Sabha?” He said the AAP was reaping only what it had sowed. “It is too late for the AAP to regret”, he remarked. The PCC president said, the AAP had struck a deal with the big billionaire industrialists who obviously helped the party according to its “principle” of ‘saam, daam, dand, bed’ and if these people have now chalked and chosen a different path and course, the AAP has to blame itself, instead of seeking remedies elsewhere.
