Chandigarh 16 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Epitomising the Punjabi saying “Mann Neeva, Matt Uchi” — humility in heart and wisdom in thought — eminent industrialist and Trident Group Chairman Emeritus Rajinder Gupta has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. The announcement came on Thursday afternoon after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended. The Returning Officer handed over the certificate of election to Gupta in the presence of Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan during a brief ceremony at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha complex. Gupta was accompanied by his wife, while Mr. Deepak Nanda, Managing Director, Trident Group, was also present on the occasion. A respected business leader and philanthropist, Mr. Gupta had filed his nomination as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the Rajya Sabha bypoll, held to fill a vacant seat from Punjab.
